Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage embraces a variety of techniques to deeply stimulate the muscles, tendons and fascia to improve the function of the body's connective tissues and/or muscles. Relief from chronic pain and scar tissue is another goal of deep tissue massage.

The therapist uses hands, fingers or elbows to apply slow strokes, and deep localized pressure or friction. Strokes may be with or against the muscle grain. Deep tissue massage is done in a localized area and most often used in conjunction with other types of massage therapies.

Like all types of bodywork and massage one can expect to feel relaxed after treatment. Deep tissue massage is rigorous and one may find a slight soreness during or afterwards but may experience more lightness, mobility and a lessening of chronic discomfort a day or two after treatment.
